American Witch Hazel Shrubs are an attractive late fall-blooming, low-maintenance shrub or small tree that grows best in part shade and medium-wet, slightly acidic soils. The yellow flowers are one of the last to appear in late fall and early winter and are long-lasting. The Witch Hazel Shrub’s fragrant yellow flowers open in late October or November and provide nectar for migrating insects. Botanically referred to as ‘Hamamelis virginiana, ‘ the American Witch Hazel has upright spreading branches that are perfect nesting sites for various birds. Deep, golden yellow fall leaf color can be outstanding.
