09 Nov Evangeline Rooftop Opens at Ace Hotel Toronto
Fourteen stories above Toronto, the all-season rooftop bar and lounge Evangeline has opened atop the Ace Hotel Toronto. The 80-seat concept was crafted by Shim-Sutcliffe Architects in collaboration with Atelier Ace to embody coziness—from its interior to the lushly planted outdoor terrace overlooking the city’s downtown area.
“We were inspired by mountain lodges and lounge spaces,” says Atelier Ace design director Little Wing Lee. “We wanted Evangeline to feel relaxed and luxurious. We’re hoping guests will come up here and just really unwind. We want them to simply ease into everything.”
Evangeline is handsomely layered with vintage and custom furniture and rugs, with dual fireplaces anchoring the interior lounge. A simple palette of green and orange hues enlivens the atmosphere, while lush velvet and suede textures infuse a sumptuous sensibility. Sculptural ceramics by Montreal-based artist David Umemoto are illuminated by custom light fixtures alongside a rotation of artwork showcasing a range of Canadian talents. “Evangeline is a place that celebrates great art and design,” Lee adds. “It’s about supporting the community, and also helping to further root Evangeline in a special place.”
