Helleri Holly is an easy-to-grow Deer resistant evergreen shrub that can be trimmed to a perfect hedge or left unpruned. When left in its unpruned state, it develops into an almost ideal mound shape. This Holly shrub has shiny dark green foliage that contrasts beautifully with the greenish-white flowers the plant produces in the spring. As a female Holly of its cultivar, the plant will also produce fruits in the fall if planted near a pollinating male Holly. Botanically referred to as ‘Ilex Crenata Helleri, ‘ these dwarf Japanese Holly shrubs grow to a maximum height of 4 feet and are only 5 feet wide. The Hollies’ slow-growing tendencies and compact form make it an ideal landscape plant for smaller yards. Ideal conditions for the Helleri Holly include full sun and moderate watering. The hardy plant will also tolerate part shade conditions and can grow in many different soil types. However, besides the interest they bring to your yard, a benefit of planting Helleri Holly is this plant’s low maintenance care needs. Popular uses of these evergreen shrubs include use in urban gardens and border plantings. Helleri Holly also works excellently when planted as a dense, low-lying hedge.
